When Scrolling Leads to Doubts

Take a deep breath. Let’s sit together for a moment, just you and me...I have saved you a spot...then we can chat about what happens when scrolling leads to doubts in homeschooling.

First off, I’ve been where you are. After eighteen years of homeschooling my own children, I can tell you a little secret: those feelings of doubt? They are normal. They are something that just about every single homeschool parent will feel. They don’t mean you’re failing. They just mean you care deeply.
When you look online, it’s so easy to fall into the comparison trap. {Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube....they are all a blessing & a curse} You see families who seem to have it all together—baking perfect sourdough bread with ingredients they grew from their own garden while practicing their Latin lessons just for fun. Then you look at your own kitchen table. Even before the lesson began, you had to shove aside piles of papers, those library books that are SO overdue, and all the started projects just to find space. Then, what was supposed to be a simple writing assignment turns into a mountain of big emotions, and you wonder:
“Am I ruining my kids?”
“What am I doing wrong?”
“What was I thinking?”
Friend... lean in just a little closer to make sure that you can hear me: You are not ruining your kids. You are not doing anything wrong. You want what is best for your kids.
Here is the beautiful, unfiltered truth that social media rarely shows: homeschooling does not happen in a vacuum. It happens in the middle of a real, loud, beautifully chaotic family life.
There are going to be those gold-star days where the sun is shining, the math concepts click on the first try, and everyone actually puts their shoes where they belong. We love those days! {Soak them up whenever possible!!}
But then... there are the "disaster days."
The days where the dog eats the science project, the toddler colors on the wall, the laundry mountain threatens to collapse, and nobody wants to cooperate.
And you know what? That is okay.
You will adjust, you will think about what works & what doesn't, and then you will tweak your homeschool days until it works for your family. Because YOUR family is the MOST important to YOU!! You will do the research....you will do the hard work...you will do what must be done.
We learn from all of the days. In fact, some of our very best homeschool moments are born right in the middle of the mess. When things don't go according to plan, we have a beautiful opportunity to show our kids what real life looks like. We get to model how to pivot, how to laugh at the chaos, and how to extend grace to ourselves and each other when things fall apart.
Education isn't about perfection. It’s about connection. Those hard days where you pause the lesson, wrap your child in a hug, and say, "Let's try again tomorrow"—that is where the real learning happens. That is where they learn resilience, flexibility, grace, and unconditional love.
Your homeschool doesn't have to look like a perfected pin on Pinterest or be the next viral Reel on Instagram to be a sacred, successful space.
You are doing a wonderful job. I see you, I believe in you, and you’ve got this.
Happy Homeschooling 🤎 Jenn
